Voltage: Fashion Amplified

Ogi Eyewear & Moss Optical Rock the Runway and gain insight into the future of fashion

The 2011 edition of Voltage: Fashion Amplified showcased a wide array of talented Minnesota designers and musicians eager to give breadth to their most current creative outputs. A powerful trend spotted on runways from Minneapolis to Paris has been the emergence of eyewear. Eyewear has evolved from a medical necessity to a bold, fashionable must-have accessory. The increasing demand for eyewear was the perfect invitation for Minneapolis based Ogi Eyewear and Moss Optical to enter the ring of the fashion elite. Both Moss Optical and Ogi Eyewear believe that becoming involved with local fashion designers can give great insight into the future of the fashion industry.

Ogi was incredibly pleased to compliment the looks from designer Renalie Bailey and the band Me and My Arrow.

Where does eyewear begin?

Paper + Pencil = Eyewear

Each frame has been hand drawn by designer David Spencer. With over 10,000 frames in-stock, that is a lot of drawings!

What’s the difference between plastic frames?

Great Acetate.

The finest eyewear in the world uses custom made sheet acetate. Each sheet is handmade and consists of multiple layers of color and texture. Sheet acetate can be cut at different angles to produce unique patterns and color-ways. Ogi Eyewear uses handmade acetate from Mazzucchelli in Italy. Mazzucchelli produces the worlds greatest plastic and is the most desired material in the optical industry.

How to choose your eyewear

1. Shape

When choosing eyewear, it’s important to find a shape that compliments your face. To do so, find a shape that contrasts the natural shape of your face.

For example: If you have a round face, never wear a round frame.

2. Color

It is important to color coordinate. If you have blue eyes, you should wear blue glasses. Color can create an intrigue aspect that can incorporated into your different styles to add personality.

3. Size

Size generally is determined by the boldness that you desire from your eyewear. If you want a soft, quiet pair of glasses, look for small, rimless or semi-rimless eyewear. If you are looking to make a statement, choose large, thick eyewear.
